The Swimmer

This afternoon 29 people took part in the annual Clyde Swim from Kilcreggan to the Royal West of Scotland Amateur Boat Club (RWSABC) on The Esplanade in Greenock.

All the swimmers completed the 1.85 mile (3km) swim across the River Clyde. Times varied from 46 to 80 minutes and the swim was won by 16-year-old Calum Dyer from Gourock, with a time of 46 min 52 sec. The water temperature was around 14 degrees celsius.

This is Liz Deegan as she emerges from the water after completing the swim in around 76 minutes. I love her expression, 'I've done it'. Worth looking large. You can see other images on Blipfolio.

Swimmers were accompanied by kayaks and safety boats. This is the first year that the swim has been organised by the boat club which now offers open water swimming as a club activity along with rowing, kayaks and sailing. Open water swimming sessions take place on Thursday and Friday evenings, entering the water around 6:30pm. Swimmers who want to give open water swimming in the Clyde a try are encouraged to come along.
