Rodley Nature Reserve
Still that chilly wind but warmer in the sunshine.
This morning we have spent a very enjoyable few hours walking round Rodley Nature Reserve, near Leeds.
It was nice to see quite a few families walking round too, but inspite of the people it is always a peaceful place.
We were delighted to see the first sand martins had returned from spending the winter in Africa.
I didn’t manage to get a photo except for the holes they have made in the wall of sand.

There were quite a few swans, and geese sat on nests. Noticed one lonely white egg on one of the islands. We wondered if it had been deserted by a Canada goose.
We were amazed to see thousands of tadpoles in one of the ponds. All round the edges. Lots snails too. There was nothing in the three other ponds. All looked the same so no idea why the frogs only laid their frogspawn in one.

Lots of cowslips in the wildflower meadow.
Finished with coffee and fruit cake in the cafe, and had a nice chat with one of our walking friends who helps out there on Sunday mornings.
This afternoon I have watered the pots, and also made a Bara Brith loaf using the Wholemeal flour I bought at the mill.
Added 3 teaspoons of baking powder and it has turned out perfect.
We have just had a piece with our afternoon cuppa and MrC has given it the thumbs up.
I will certainly buy some more next time we are passing.
