A Great Crested Grebe in all its finery, although it wasn't actually displaying to a female at the time.
There were several of these beautiful birds to be seen at Willingdon Wetlands, a brilliant Derbyshire Wildlife Trust reserve in the south of Derbyshire.
We were hoping to hear, or even see, bitterns but no luck. There was a good range of birds as well as the grebes - heron, Little Egret, geese, ducks and a whole range of "dry land" birds including goldfinch, warblers and chiffchaff.
Excellent day.
