The Magic Of Magnolia, Great Comp, St.Mary's Platt

Today we decided to pop to Great Comp Garden, a place we've visited quite a few times to take some pictures.  The visit was prompted by seeing a report on the local news about its beautiful display of magnolia trees which are in full bloom at the moment. My main image is a close up of a particularly vibrant pink variety, it just looked wonderful against the clear blue sky above. My first extra is from another part of the garden near the main lawn. I just loved the way the tree was shedding petals from the blooms, it looked like confetti under the shadows of the tree branches.
On the news report the head gardener said magnolias are very susceptible to frost and if it does get cold enough for it in early Spring the blooms and petals can turn brown overnight. He said this year the display has probably been the best it has in years as it hasn't got cold enough at night in most of the garden and so they have stayed looking magnificent for longer. However, in the shadier part of the garden it must get slightly colder as some of the camellia blooms (see the second extra) had started to go brown. However, I sill thing they looked strangely beautiful.
