Here goes......

Twa Coos

Or for those of you who are not Scottish, two cows, not the most imaginative title I know but what else could I call it?

After a hearty hotel breakfast (diet starts on Monday...honest) we met in the residents lounge to plan our day. We decided to walk the Machair way from the hotel in a Westerly direction, cutting back inland at some point to see some of the many small lochs on South Uist. As we only had one day here we decided that we could only see a small part. The weather was nice in the morning with a strong wind. We walked along, admiring the wild flowers that the Machair is famous for (unfortunately we had missed the wild orchids......another reason to go back). Passed more stunning sandy beaches and eventually dropped down to wals on one exceptionally long one. At this point we took a detour onto an small island connected by a natural causeway, walked to the top of the hill for some photos of Barra.

Back to the Machair way and a snack stop as it was quite warm at this point. After a few miles we turned inland and the weather changed so it was on with the waterproofs and head down as we still had about 5 or 6 miles to do. These cows were one of the many photos I took, I liked how they were lying together. We arrived back mid afternoon and a bit soggy but a reasonable walk of more than 10 miles was under our belt. Quick dry off and change of clothes and off in the car to Lochboisedale where we get the ferry home from. As it turns out didn't take long as there's not much there.

Late afternoon drinks in the bar then ready for another brilliant dinner at the Polacher Inn. Early ferry home tomorrow :-(
