Go For Baroque
Lisbon, Day 2.
Another really interesting tour today, and once again we were very lucky with the weather, which we were told would include rain showers, but in fact. was lovely, sunny, and coolish.
We visited the Estrela Basilica this morning, and admired its over the top, ornate baroque ruffles and frills. This is a view of the central dome as seen from near the tomb of Queen Mary I -- the Patron of the Basilica.
We then visited the very interesting Museu Nacional do Azulejo -- a museum dedicated to the famous Portuguese tiles, housed in the old Convent of Madre de Deus, founded in 1509. (See extra).
A turnover day, so a bunch of people disembarked, and lots of new people came on board.
