We’ve been at Longshaw today, checking nest boxes. It’s still a bit early for Summer visitors yet, but the signs are that they’re on their way. I’ve been checking the location of some new boxes, including this one which we’re trying out. It’s an open-fronted design, which is supposed to be favoured by Redstarts. We know they choose to visit the estate but as they seldom use are regular boxes, they aren’t easy to monitor unlike the Pied Flycatchers
