Ticket To Ride

The perfect tailwind took me up Wharfedale and over to Hawes. Here, I was making my choice depending on legs. They were OK. The difficulty is knowing whether you've got two more hills in them because there's no choice at this point. In a way, that's good - once you've committed, you know you're going to have to!

My thighs felt the effort by the short steepies out of Swaledale but the weather was glorious, birds were everywhere and I was in high spirits. This is looking back with the Buttertubs road coming down from the right.

I had plenty of time to drop into Kirkby Stephen to the petrol station Coop  where I was dreaming of hot foot, having only ever bought sandwiches there. Oh, for a pasty!

My luck was in - a hot food counter has miraculously appeared (or at least I've never been dreaming of hot food before) at the back of the shop. The pasty was staring me in the face but I picked out a ham and cheese sour bread toasty which was the perfect end to my ride.

That still left the couple of miles uphill to the station, which is always a touch arduous, but I've had a fierce headwind up there before so I was just thankful today.

Train on time. Home for tea.
