Birthday Gift

Penelope and I had never gotten to know each other even though she lives next door. She has always stared at me with solemn eyes and maybe a wave. When I gave her a gift for her second birthday, she sat staring at me, like she does. She wasn’t interested in the doll or the rubber ducky, but she did grab the sparkly little ball and held on to it. Then, her eyes lit up and she threw the ball at me! Boy, did we have fun then! Many missed catches, lots of running around, and I even got two hugs. Birthdays are fun!
