Jeremiah Curtain House

Some of you may remember the blip I did of Trimborn Farm a while back. This house is right next door to it, & in fact was owned for awhile by the owners of Trimborn Farm. David Curtain, his wife Ellen, & infant son Jeremiah were among a group of Irish imigrants who settled in the old Town of Greenfield in the mid 1830's. With help from a stone mason, David build the first stone house in town. It was later inherited by his son Jeremiah. It was sold to the Trimborn Family in 1866 & remained occupied until the 1920's. The Milwaukee County Historical Society acquired the house in 1952, but it remained in disrepair for another 25 years. In the late 1970's funds were raised by various organizations to restore the site. The house was officially dedicated on the 150th anniversary of Jeremiah's birth--Sept. 6th., 1985.
