Getting Fit

I forgot to say yesterday that I started a five day online fitness challenge. Sindy Bond on Facebook. Weeks ago in Leeds Mrs G suggested it and I blithely said yes  without really knowing what it involved. Well yesterday was the day it started. At 6am!!
Obviously I didn’t start at 6am because that’s just silly, I watched the first session at the more civilised time of 7.30!!
I had assumed the challenge was just exercise but it turns out it’s much more than that. The task yesterday was to write down why we were doing it. Saying “to lose a few pounds or “to get fitter” wasn’t enough, you had to be really specific, keep asking why.
I wrote this which I’m putting here for accountability.

I want to be able to move freely.

I’m scared that it’s hard now at 50 so how will I feel at 60, 70 and beyond?

I want flexibility and mobility as I get older so I can be active and travel and do whatever I choose without being limited by a failing body. Which I have failed.

Imagine 20 years from now knowing I could have made choices 20 years ago which would have changed my quality of life.

And we had to do a vision board. As usual, I scoff at things like that but then throw myself into it wholeheartedly like I’ve joined a cult!!!
My vision board was pictures of all the places I want to be able to go when I’m old - lots of steps, beautiful scenery, uneven ground, remote wilderness, campervans, bikes. A long healthspan rather than lifespan.
So I’m very motivated!!!
This morning I set my alarm for just before 6am and joined in with the live 20 minute workout. See, it’s like I’ve joined a cult!!!
I used 2kg weights. It was hard but I managed it and felt smug afterwards.
And I went swimming this afternoon for the first time in ages. 32 lengths and another lovely smug feeling!
I met Mrs L in Bicester tonight to go and see Bridget Jones at the cinema. We met at 6.30pm There’s nowhere in Bicester to get a cup of tea after 6pm so we ended up with a Sainsbury’s sandwich and a cup of tea in the cinema. Very nice though!
I LOVED the film! So good!!! In preparation I’ve watched the other three over the last week or so.  I’d say this is up there with the first one. Loved it!!!!
I met Mum briefly beforehand and we went to Coles bookshop to sign up for book club later this month and buy the book - the first in the Marlow Murders series.
