Men at Work
I have a whole new respect for catering - as a volunteer at the national Community Garden Conference I was part of a crew that schlepped everything to the 40 or so tables set for 10. So tired feet. But more -------------------R E S P E C T ...... They were so organized, worked so fast as you can see with the blur of the tray and the sous chef who was whirling towards the next task as I shot the photo, and the food was amazing too.
Then I began to think about food, how much of our lives and our economy, our interests and passions have to do with food. The obvious shopping, prepping, cooking, storing, eating, clean-up; and then the layers in the personal area of heath and obsession, diet and fad, etc.; then growing, transporting, distribution and all that goes with all of those which is huge; politics and policies so governments and well all of that; and I know there are more layers and specialties. It is pretty darned amazing! And since few of us who grow our own food anymore, then we spend many hours working at jobs so that we can buy it, and if we don't have jobs, we spend hours in other ways getting what might sustain us even a little bit.
