Visiting Kelvingrove
A warm, sunny start to the day and a visit to a printers, a 10 minute walk from here, the shop was closed and after yesterdays technical issues we assume the owner has decided to take a day off. We can try again tomorrow.
The nearest Subway station is about a mile from where we are staying, a decent walk to gain a few more steps and onto the circuit and under the River Clyde to Kelvinhall. The weather was summer warm at times, fortunately after the first venture out it was decided to leave our coats in the apartment.
We had a plan for eating out, a visit to Kelvingrove was along the way with the building looked majestic under a clear blue sky. We can only cope with visiting a museum for an hour or so at a time, today it was a wander up to the gallery and afterwards to look at the Glasgow Boys exhibition. It was easier to view the spitfire from the gallery, information tells us it was installed in 2006 after a major restoration. Extra: the masks, not sure what to make of these, and a look down onto the elephant. I’m sure with every visit over the years John will say, ah the elephant is still here, although when renovating the museum a few years ago it was removed, we wondered where to? The vase is a Grayson Perry, something that needs time to look at in detail to make sense of it all.
Afterwards on to Mother India for lunch with a good selection of small, spicy dishes, it is years since last visiting, we didn’t see a change, with great food and service. I don’t think you can book a table, our first visit involved waiting in queue outside in the rain, it was worth it then and on subsequent visits. Today at 2.00pm we didn’t have to queue.
A slow walk back to the substation, the streets around us were busy, colourful and vibrant. Not quite as many steps today, although a rest was called for once back at base. I miss the garden on a day like this.
