Comma butterfly
This was my first butterfly of the year, seen in the Hermitage of Braid with JH, on what I think is chionodoxa or glory of the snow. There were a number of them about and there were also peacock butterflies. This one looks a bit tatty, and it seems that commas hibernate and then emerge in March giving rise to the new generation which appears in late June or the start of July.
We had planned to have a cup of tea at the Lodge Cafe at the entrance to the Hermitage, but it was shut. We were either too late or it had never been open today. Still, we then walked through the Hermitage and over to Blackford Pond, aiming to have a cup of tea from the police box coffee shop but, unsurprisingly, it was also shut, although it looked as if it had been open earlier. So we continued on our walk, going through the grounds of Astley Ainslie Hospital and then home to Woodburn Terrace. It was a beautiful day, warm again, and I really enjoyed the walk, even if we didn't get our cup of tea.
