The pub in this village (a ten minute drive away) has just been refurbished and opened again after being closed for five years. My son took me there for a belated Mother’s Day lunch and it was excellent. It’s a beautiful village and the Manor House is renowned for hosting the Gunpowder Plotters in the timber room (see extra). The entrance to the Manor has interesting gateposts and they are built with ‘Beggar’s Seats’ where peasants would sit and wait until the Lord of the Manor was ready to see them. Part of the church dates from the 1100s. The pews look very uncomfortable to sit on
