Bridge 177 - Trent & Mersey
Another great day geocaching with Paul as we continued the series along the Trent & Mersey canal, this time between Rudheath and Middlewich.
This is bridge 177 which is very isolated and some distance from the nearest road. It is called the Murder Bridge and naturally I googled this to find out how it got its name and I'm now listening to a podcast which tells the story. It is named after the unsolved murder of Herbert Wilkinson, a solicitor from Middlewich, in October 1967. His body was found in a shallow grave on the opposite side of the canal and it is believed that the body must have been transported by canal because it is so isolated. It is a fascinating story.
