The harsh reality

Today we had a visit from the architect who is working with the Natural Hazards Commission  to facilitate the rebuild of our decks and other necessary repairs. He was somewhat lost for words when he saw a portion of one of the main supporting beams for the deck. He only had to touch the beam to make the chunks of wood fall out. They are pictured in the lower image.The only good news is that the repair/rebuild is now being fast tracked due to the rapid deterioration. Thankfully, we are not paying for the process.
