UW Quad Yoshimo Cherry blossoms
Photographed from NannaK’s steps outside the UW Art building. Large crowds yesterday, somewhat less today. The leading theory as to the source of the trees is that they were purchased for $1.25 each in 1939 for the Washington Park Arboretum and planted there first. Others argue that these trees were planted in 1936 , or before, as part of Roosevelt’s New Deal. Google “Sakura” to learn more.
