“Self-deport, now!”

Remember that word as you’re likely to see it more often. It’s a euphemism for ‘leave the country’ but has appeal to the current regime’s sensibilities around being tough on immigration (I mean it includes the word ‘deport’ so that’s cool, right?) :(

Hundreds of students on F1 visas (that’s how I first came to the US 40+ years ago) received emails telling them their visas had been cancelled and that they are no longer “in status” and must self deport immediately. Most of those are Muslims… they were identified through scrutiny of their social media and because some participated in pro Palestinian campus protests.
