MonoMonday: Weird and Wonderful

I've not had much opportunity today to work on my photo for GillyH's MM challenge, as I had a day-case hospital procedure to repair an inguinal hernia which appeared about 4 months ago (quite common in men anyway, but it seems to affect many of the males in our family, so I blame my genes rather than doing too much!).

Anyway as I lay in the hospital bed waking up from the anaesthetic this picture was facing me on the opposite wall. As you may be able to tell, it depicts parts of the Angel of the North, the iconic sculpture created in 1998 by Anthony Gormley. It's a rather weird collage of the Angel, which itself is rather weird and wonderful. When it was new, one of our offspring decided that it looked rather like an aeroplane which had crash-landed backwards! (There's much more detail here if you're interested).

As far as the op went, I couldn't have been better looked after and so far (touch wood) I'm remarkably comfortable. I'm sure I'd have had just as good care on the NHS but I actually had the op done at a private hospital, as if I'd waited on the NHS it would probably have ended up being done in late August, just when we're planning to be back in Toronto helping to look after Grandson P and Granddog Oona while our son & daughter-in-law there are busy with the pending arrival of another grandchild (we've waited quite a long time for grandkids and now they're coming like buses, one each year!) It might also have been tricky getting travel insurance whilst on a waiting list for surgery.

(I guess surgery and anesthesia are weird and wonderful in their own way - as is the human body!)

Many thanks to LesleyAlsford and GillyH for hosting the MM challenge so well this month.
