Sycamore Gap but no sycamore

We said goodbye to Duncan and Grace, put our £10 in the honesty box for the overnight parking which had provided us with such a stunning sunset over the Nith and took a more direct route to the A75. Duncan suggested a B road and I used my map rather than risk asking Google which could have routed us down single track roads with low bridge scares.

It was sad to see Sycamore Gap on Hadrian’s Wall without its famous much-loved tree which featured in the Kevin Costner Robin Hood film and many photos taken by wall walkers like us. (Sorry the photo is taken from the car but I liked the way the dyke led the eye up to the gap). We stopped further along the military road for a picnic and took away some rubbish lying around the car park - mainly cardboard coffee mugs, and a disposable BBQ.

Back home the bathroom tiles are down and he’ll be back tomorrow to grout them and start the wall.
