Many mothers

There seemed to be so many mothers in this Mothering Sunday - and still I recall how in my childhood we paid no heed to it whatsoever. Perhaps the day wasn’t marked in Church of Scotland circles; perhaps it was less of a thing in the 1940s and 50s, but whatever the reason I only became aware of it when I became an Episcopalian and, five months later, a mother!

Whatever the history, I feel today was well marked in my own life. In church, Paddy (our resident retired Canon) produced posies for all , foraged and made by herself and distributed by the two small boys in our congregation. I had a funny card and fabby chocolates from one son, flowers and a box of goodies from the other when we arrived at his house in the late afternoon. (Yes - another Sunday afternoon drive to Edinburgh…) Dinner at which there were actually four mothers present, joined by offspring, plus two cats and Po the collie.

My photo is of one of the cats who’d gone out the back door and walked round via the lane to appear at the front window while we were at dinner. My blip is , I fear, a bit below par. Blame the lost hour, the busy day - and, if you must, the bubbly.

Cheers!
