A good level

We enjoyed a brilliant day in London, on several levels. First, in terms of the weather which was excellent through until some time mid afternoon. Second, because of what we got to do.

The early signs were not that propitious. We had to collect a delivery for L from the East Dulwich delivery office, and then take something to a post office to be sent off urgently. This meant that by 10am I had already done about 7000 steps. That was just the beginning, though. It was 20k by bedtime.... Anyway, from Lordship Lane Post Office things picked up. We headed for a quick coffee and then the train to London Bridge. After wandering through Borough Market, looking not buying (ridiculous prices and no bag to put anything in), we were attracted to having an early beer in the sun outside The Anchor tavern. Good beers. Some chat with other people who were sitting at the same table. And great street photography. A top package for me.

Thereafter to The Globe, where we saw a production of the Three Sisters in the Sam Wanamaker Playhouse (added an extra) (and see also another paywalled review which is very positive about the production). It's a lovely space for a production like that...you were so close to the actors. And the candle light really adds to the atmosphere. It was strange to come out afterwards and it was still perfectly light.

It proved very easy to get from Bankside to Little Venice - a walk back to London Bridge tube station and then Jubilee line and Bakerloo line to Warwick Avenue. It took us less than half an hour, and it was quite a culture shock to emerge from the tube into a very different part of London. We had time to pick up a tiny bit of shopping, before heading to E and T's house for dinner. Good to see them, and their children J and G. A lovely house (and we were much entertained to hear whom they had bought it from) and a great evening of food, drink and chat. I admired the TrainTrackr of the underground which was one of T's Christmas presents. Quite hypnotic. Mr A thought it a bit uber nerdy.

Getting back to Peckham Rye was not quite so easy. Our first tube train was supposed to go all the way to the Elephant and Castle, but terminated in Waterloo. We waited for another train to come along, alighting at Lambeth North to get a bus (we should have got off at the Elephant, in retrospect). We had quite a long wait for a bus, the bus took an age, and then a 10 minute walk back to the house. I think if I were to do that again, I'd use the Bakerloo and Jubilee to go back to London Bridge and then get a train to Peckham Rye from there, even though the walk is a little longer from the station.

All in all, an exhausting but rather brilliant day.
