En route to Wales, I stopped off in Chester for half the day.
More or less avoiding the city cente, I started with a wander round Grosvenor Park where they were assembling a giant wheel. From there, it was down to the Riverside where several Morris dancing troupes were performing.
I followed the Riverside footpath for a couple of miles, and in so doing crossed into Wales and the start of the Wales Coast Path (extra). On the other side of the River Dee, at Saltney Quay, this WW2 era pillbox survives. It seems to be a few yards on the Englush side of the border.
This roundabout route brought me more or less to Deva Stadium (also visible in extra), for my first visit, where Chester were hosting Curzon Ashton in a National League North fixture. A goal apiece in the first half gave a 1-1 final score.
Then a trek back across the city, including a nice stretch along the canal, returned me to the train station and my onward travel to Rhyl, from whence the final leg of my trip, by bus to Denbigh.
