A rant!  On my walk before the rain (with cloud obscuring the partial sun eclipse) I passed several people from a nearby village doing a community litter pick on some of the roads around.  It is disgraceful that there is so much litter thrown out of cars without any thought of the damage to the environment and wildlife.  In places there are all sorts of things which are impossible to reach in the thick hedges and will take an eternity to break down.  There was even a broken tv set dumped in a field and nearer home I passed a load of old fridges, furniture, tyres and general household items thrown down an embankment.  Although those roads are quiet with very little traffic the amount of rubbish still to be collected was phenomenal but nothing like that lying beside busy roads.  In school children are taught to be careful with disposal of litter yet the problem is not going away. Meanwhile all over the country volunteers are giving time to try to keep the roadsides tidier.
