Butter Bridge
We left our cottage at about 9 am and headed east. We chose a northerly route through Stirling rather than to Glasgow and motorway to Edinburgh.
Only half an hour out we were going through Glen Kinglas and looking at snow on the tops when I noticed this beautiful bridge. A quick swing round got me into a handy lay-by. I found later it's a bridge built in 1749 on a military road from Dumbarton to Inverary. I love its fern covered masonry and the mountains behind. I think the central conical one is Beinn Ime.
We carried on and stopped off at the Falkirk wheel for lunch, just because it was handy. The rain started up as we were there so the rest of the journey was a bit dire.
The primary purpose of this trip was for Marian to pay a visit to Frances at the weekend, but I suggested we both go and add some holiday time. Unfortunately, the boys went down with a stomach bug last week. They're better now but Frances has gone down with it, so I'm not sure what we'll see of her. We really can't afford to have that sort of business while we're travelling!
We're settled into our hotel outside Edinburgh and will see what tomorrow brings.
My extra may not be the best shot of the Falkirk Wheel but I think it's probably the best angle for today.
