The looks a father is going to have to get used to

A glorious day, if freezing cold (-4°/-10°). The sun was shining and, just for a change, Ottawacker Jr. had a PD Day at school. How often there are Professional Development days and their similar Professional Activity days in Ontario is quite striking to me. I’m a big fan of the teaching profession and all they do, but I sometimes wonder how parents who do not have jobs working from home actually cope with it all.
 
There has been a sea change in Ottawacker Jr. over the past couple of days. He has done things like going for a run, and having a shower, and putting his dishes in the dishwasher without being asked. Today, he stayed in bed till around 9:45am reading. I looked in and there he was, Tui the cat lying across his chest, with his latest book almost finished. I’m thrilled he loves reading.
 
As I am now working, I took Ottawacker Jr. for dim sum at the Beijing Legend, and very good it was too. Then, it was back home to the grindstone. Again, he sat in his chair, reading…
