Wild Flower Meadow
I saw these wild flowers growing in a small park near the Rotherhithe Tunnel.
As part of the Queen's Diamond Jubilee in 2012,
King's Stairs Gardens, which is
Rotherhithe's own Village Green, was awarded
a new status as a Queen Elizabeth II Field,
a designation that commemorates her Majesty's
60 years as Queen, and helps safeguard this park
in perpetuity.
The two fenced-off areas in the park are newly
seeded wildflower meadows and these are
part of an initiative from the Save King's
Stairs Garden Action Group, funded by
Fields in Trust and created by Southwark
Council's Parks Department.
It needs an action group because Thames Water was threatening to use it as a building site for when they construct the super sewer under the Thames.
