Things that make me smile

Joking with Anne!

Today we went to Hever Castle, which is the childhood home of Anne Boleyn. It was an amazing day out with so much to see and do.

The gardens are glorious with an amazing adventure playground for children up to the age of 14 (quite unusual, so even our older ones were happy). There was a water maze (which the kids got absolutely soaked in) as well as a regular maze. Then after lunch there was a jousting tournament, with all the main characters dressed in authentic Tudor costume. The actual jousting was real! Looked very painful for the knight who was knocked off... and it was always the same guy!

After this tournament, we went to look around the actual castle, which is actually quite small, but very well restored. As we were coming out, who should be coming in, but Henry VIII and Anne Boleyn, back from the jousting! I asked them if they wouldn't mind posing with the kids and they were very happy to. In fact they were very jovial and quite cheeky... as I'm sure you can see from the twinkle in Anne's eye!!
