Sgwarnog: In the Field

By sgwarnog

Stage

The stage is set, at Leeds City Varieties Music Hall, for Portland band The Delines, with English singer-songwriter Peter Bruntnell in support.

The Delines is Willy Vlautin’s band, and it’s fair to say that I know his novels better than his music, but his creative fiction is an extension of his songwriting; always focussed on America’s left behind. They offered a great set: consummate musicianship and great songs beautifully sung by Amy Boone. They were appreciative of the beautiful venue, comparing it to the days they were coming up through punk, dive bars

Bruntnell seems destined to be one of those artists who will be appreciated more after he’s gone. He has a staggering catalogue of albums and songs, and a strong reputation among his musician and songwriting peers, but I think very little public recognition or radio play. I’ll be exploring his music a bit more.

Earlier, my first Peacock butterfly of the year in the park.
