Eowyn's Legacy
Storm Eowyn blew down a very tall spruce tree at the end of our garden leaving a big crater where the root bowl rotated in the ground. I have cut up most of the trunk into logs just leaving the bottom 6 feet still attached to the root bowl. This bottom section is beyond the capacity of my saws and I would need a crane to move it so I have decided to leave it and have trimmed the roots from the bowl. As the bottom section of the trunk is just the right height I shall fashion it in situ into a garden bench. I have lined the perimeter of the crater with some of the trunk logs and filled in much of the depression with soil in which I am planting wild flower seeds hopefully to attract butterflies.
