The Big Picture and a Mystery!
Since over the past few days I have only shown selected views of my village's best known building I thought I better let you see the big picture! A short history of the building states...
"The building is described as a "Large, austere three / four storey basalt built orphanage of c.1885 with central bell tower and crow-stepped gabled outer bays. With its late medieval overtones this building resembles some of the George Wilkinson designed work houses of the 1840s, however, its appearance more stark, angular and mannerist and its scale somewhat larger and exaggerated by its siting within a domestic proportioned village."

The mystery concerns the second and unrelated extra photograph. I discovered this device chained to a telegraph pole at the end of a lane a short distance from my home. It looks like an instrument for measure the wind and it also seems to have a microphone attached. The mystery is why would it be positioned here? Any ideas?
