This Gorilla is a protest about the bush meat trade - 800 gorillas are killed a year in Cameroon for food. It is painted in heat sensitive paint so that written messages appear when the sun shines. I was attracted by the mother and daughter playing "Chase me Charlie" round the statue in the background. The bronze statue is of William III, aka William of Orange, the William in William and Mary and "King Billy" in Irish folk song; it was cast in 1733 by John Michael Rysbrack (spelt Rysbrach on the plinth??) and erected 3 years later. It was William III who died at the hands of "the little gentleman in the black velvet waistcoat" (aka the mole that built the hill on which the kings mount, Sorrel, stumbled throwing the king to his death).
