What struck my fancy

Resident wildlife

We've lived here since 1977 and have been quite used to catching sight of deer, usually from the car, as we pass through local countryside and woodland. I never dreamt that the time would come when we might see them visiting our suburban garden and taking up residence.

This is not a 'proper' deer but a muntjac distinguished from the Chinese water deer which also run wild hereabouts; muntjac have the short antlers, whereas the Chinese water deer don't and instead have rather sharp looking tusks sticking sideways out of the corners of their mouth.

They are a bit of a pest because they gobble up my wife's plants.
