A Fine Day Out

The lure of good weather and a photo exhibition had me heading to Bucklers Hard on the Beaulieu River in Hampshire for the day.

This quiet village of perhaps a dozen houses or so was once a thriving ship building centre employing over 100 people at it height building ships for the Napoleonic wars, including the HMS Agamemnon launched in 1781 and said to be Nelson’s favourite ship despite losing his eye while serving as captain on her.

The photo exhibition turned out to be small but had a good selection of images from past Beaulieu River photo competitions. I also visited the museum which was very interesting.

For the afternoon I took the riverside walk, a 4.5 - 5 mile round trip to Beaulieu village and back. I treated myself to a New Forest ice cream and enjoyed the views (extras).  I was especially pleased to see some different birds, including this little pied wagtail who perched on a wooden groin who stayed long enough for me to take its picture.

It was a good day!
