Today's the day . . . . . . . . . . for 'Silver and Enamel Day Dreams'
It was the Opening Event of the Jessie M King Exhibition at Kirkcudbright Art Gallery this evening. It's an excellent exhibition too - very well put together and showing off the great variety of her work.
Jewellery was one of the craft skills Jessie M King was encouraged to develop at the Glasgow School of Arts, where casting and enamelling were on the curriculum. In 1905, Liberty were commissioning new designs for their jewellery catalogues and King, who was already providing fabric designs for them, sent a number of sheets of jewellery designs for the firm's consideration - and they were enthusiastically produced.
The Exhibition runs from March 21 - June 22 and is well worth a visit, if you find yourself in these parts .......................
