Linton Falls
It's my Birthday! Tony brought me breakfast in bed and I opened my presents - a giant Lego set woohoo and a smashing surprise from our girls. They had made a canvas of one of my favourite photos I took on a John Gravett course some years ago. I've been meaning to have it printed but never been able to justify it to myself. I'm looking forward to mounting it on the space I've reserved for it, and may well blip it when it's up!
It was time to get up and we were off to Grassington where we parked up at the National Park Centre and took a walk up the Main Street. The centre of the village was being 'undressed' following filming, we think of 'All Creatures Great and Small'. It was interesting to see the very realistic props coming out. By the time we returned later in the day, all the shops had been transformed.
From Grassington we dropped down to the River and followed it to Linton Falls before taking a route uphill to Sticklaw Hill and Thorpe Lane which gave us long views across the Wharfe Valley behind. We passed maybe half a dozen folks on this route across to Burnsall where we had booked lunch in the Red Lion.
Replete with delicious steak and ale pies and chips (and a celebratory glass of Shiraz for me!) we took the river path route back along the valley to Grassington. The soundtracks for the day were curlews and lapwings. There was not a great deal of water in the river as can be seen by my blip of the Falls, but it was pretty under the blue sky and the bright sunshine.
Back in Grassington, we had time for cuppas and cake in a cafe before heading home to find birthday packages secreted behind the shed and plant pots, thank you Hobblers!
What a smashing day, I feel totally spoiled. Happy Birthday too to son-in-law P who has a BIG. birthday today.xx
