Day 58
Day 58 .
Today I was grateful for painkillers. I set off for a "wee dander" yesterday morning, telling Anne that I'd be half an hour or so.
Once my painkillers kicked in, I found myself stretching my "wee dander" and changing my route.
Birds in the air, curious sheep, unidentified amphibian spawn in the peaty waters of Loch Druidibeag. Hecla, Beinn Corradail, Beinn Mhòr wearing a morning cloak of fine, lacy cloud, ever-changing with the light.
I turned left instead of my intended right and walked over peat bog, along muddy tracks, tactically manoeuvred flooded sections and broken bridges.
The sky was blue. Then grey.
The sun warmed my face. Then icy rain and wind slowed me to a soggy, cold trudge.
At one point, I contemplated turning back as I knew the alternative was going to make my walk longer than intended and that my body wouldn't thank me for my thrawness.
I kept walking. Eventually, I found myself back at Benview, sore but less so than I might have been without pain relief.
Just over 5 miles, a bit more than the "mile or so" I intended.
A few weeks ago, this length of walk was painfully frustrating. I did pay the price in the evening, but thanks to Celecoxib I managed to enjoy my happy place yet again.
Another wee walk at "Stinky Bay" (not stinky on this occasion) then an afternoon walk to the Machair with Anne in the afternoon took my total to approximately 7.5 miles.
