Hoffman Lime Kiln

Near Settle. Hoffman kiln has 22 individual firing chambers. Built in 1873. It allowed almost continuous production. While several burned the limestone others were cooling the ‘cooked lime’, as others were emptied.
It eventually closed in 1951. The chimney was to be ceremoniously taken down. However it fell down of its own accord the day before the event.
