Sprouting larch

I have been keeping an eye on the larch trees on our walks, looking for signs of new life, and this morning I saw that the young needles are starting to sprout. I think they look very attractive when looked at closely, like lots of bright green punk hairstyles.
It was a busy day with grafting of apple trees along with four others from the community orchard.  Was very careful with my sharp pruning knife but I still managed to cut a slice of skin off my finger. It seems to be inevitable with this “extreme hobby”; even the experts say to keep a pack of plasters close by.
I spent nearly the whole afternoon preparing the pudding for Lunch Club tomorrow (warm gingerbread and poached pears with crème fraiche, with a gluten-free option of almond cake). The kitchen looked as if a bomb had hit it by the time I had finished!
