Oil Heritage

There are two rows of former oil derricks in a park in Kilgore, Texas, that are illuminated during the Christmas season to resemble Christmas Trees; the park is known as Christmas Tree Park.

Most folks who think about oil in Texas think of the oilfields of West Texas, or perhaps the Houston area. The Piney Woods region of East Texas have a rich heritage of oil production that continues to this day.
