The Village
The thinking Biped’s Ambridge; quite a few houses added in the past few years. It is ‘sheltered’ from the north by Ward Hill. There are several Ward Hills in Orkney. Guidance suggests that it is where a beacon was lit to signal danger, such as approaching enemy ships. “Varða” is Old Norse for beacon, and also for the person guarding the beacon. Into Kirkwall a.m. for a SCD session; shaks heid. Whilst sitting out I was quoted as saying ‘If this was on TV I would switch off.’
It's not surprising that Skip Bifferty never caught on; but then few did.
