Imperial Crown Mountains

An extraordinary day today with a dramatic and unexpected cloud inversion as MJ  and I skied up the Illhorn, 2,717 metres above sea level. There had been new snow at altitude, when we were having rain the last two days, otherwise it would have been impossible to ski either up or down! There is no base anymore.

There is a 360° view from the Illhorn, but the most impressive direction is in the direction of Imperial Crown Mountains: legendary and majestic peaks. From the middle to the left of the photo: the Dent Blanche, Obergabelhorn, Matterhorn, Zinalrothorn, Weisshorn and Bishorn, all over 4,000m. To the right of the photo you see the peaks above the Arolla Valley and the Mont Blanc Range. Why had I never been here before? In extra, a photo (which should be my main but I didn’t take it!) of of the old lady of the mountains, glad to be asked to smile which gave me a rest! A couple of other extras too.

Thank you so much MJ.
