Ash-tonishing!

This Ash tree stump is over 4 ft/1.2m across, and was cut down many years ago.  But it is still alive as can be seen by the live shoots to the right hand side. I hadn't realised how big (majestic) Ash could be. 

We are surrounded at home by self-seeded Ash that has grown close together so is tall and spindly. My tree book says that the biggest can be about 2m across!! I will have to search for one of these monsters.
