Bicycle Repair Man gets his tools out

BRM had an unusual job this morning. Crank shorteners (now there’s a thing) are now fitted to Anniemay’s bike so that she doesn’t have to lift her knee so high on the upstroke when pedalling.  If the knee is too high, it causes pain.

The internet is awash (if you know where to look) with people who are bike riders and have had knee or hip replacement surgery and are using these devices to solve their pedalling problems.

If you’ve ever wondered what crank shorteners look like, see extra.  These particular ones give a range of adjustment from 98mm to 154mm.  So as the knee heals they can be lengthened until she no longer needs them.  Then they (and BRM) will go into retirement until she has the other knee done.
