For The Trumpets Shall Sound

The Edinburgh Fringe is primarily associated with comedy and whacky drama however, there is also some poignant touching drama, which I suspect this play, written by Gaelle Stark-Ordish, is.

'Life rolls on and we have no choice but to be carried along with it...'

Jamie is home for the holidays helping his mother with the running of her vintage shop, when he makes an intriguing discovery…a photograph album containing pictures of his great-grandparents, James and Nora, and a mysterious soldier named only as R.Baker. He also finds James's diary. His mother, Ruth, is naturally shocked by this strange turn of events, and encouraged by Jamie, she begins to read the diary. Immediately they are transported back to the front line in France, 1916, to the harsh reality of life in war and a long hidden secret comes to light. A love affair forged in the trenches, where all was certainly far from fair...

Sometimes it is nice to have a serious moment at the Fringe. Here is a link to the Another Story website, whose production it is.

Having an evening off from the Fringe tonight and watching 'Masterchef' and 'Who Do You Think You Are'.
