"of her own free will"

I think many people will recognise this book, some will have read it. It has been around for a while and has featured on several prize lists so I was aware of it. I was a bit hesitant, as there have been a lot of these kind of 'me and wildlife' books recently, and sometimes they have been a bit twee. Then it was long listed for the Women's Prize for Non-fiction and I bought it.

I have read it in the last two days - a brilliant book. Beautifully written and  quite engrossing. A memoir of time spent with a new born hare with all its challenges and questions, but also a reflection on the author's own life and the way we as humans affect the wildlife around us. Recommended.

Chloe Dalton is in Keswick this week talking about the book at Words by the Water. I would have liked to hear her, but by the time I realised that we would be around this week after all (we had planned to be in Cornwall but with my dodgy hip we decided to go later in the year) she was sold out. We are going to a few events later in the week.
