Wax blocks
I have some blocks of beeswax collected when I give the bees new wax foundation to use each year. The old wax contains some propolis, the bees’ glue, a dark brown substance. This makes it unsuitable for candles as it would spit when burned.
One of the bee equipment suppliers will take this discoloured wax to clean up and use, either for a fee or they will offer some clean wax in exchange.
I have had an email discussion with them today, as I have never done this before. One of the bee group members is going to the convention next month and will take wax with them, avoiding postal costs. I think I have worked out that my 2kg block will be worth 500g clean wax. Although that may sound like a bad deal, I would otherwise be just throwing it away! And I will be able to make a lot of candles from that!
