Golden daffodils and purple crocuses!
Purple crocuses are a symbol of Rotary's worldwide campaign to eradicate polio, with it's colour representing the dye used to mark the finger of a child who has been immunised. A lifesaving oral Polio vaccine costs just 20p.
" When all at once I saw a crowd, a host of golden daffodils. Beside the Lake, beneath the trees, fluttering and dancing in the breeze."
In the Autumn, Cockermouth Rotarians, their friends, Scouts, Cubs, Primary Schools, Church eco group and Lady Egremont planted 5,500 daffodils and crocuses in over 20 sites around Cockermouth.
And now they are turning the town yellow and purple!
At the end of March, Cockermouth will turn even more yellow as we put up our daffodil displays...with lots of shop windows joining in too!
William and Dorothy Wordsworth would be amazed to see their birthplace looking so special!
