The buff-banded rail

I was thrilled to see this buff-banded rail, a first for me in Sydney Park. What a great place it has become, especially with its wetlands supporting such diversity of bird species. I'd like to have been able to get closer to it for the photo but it's a bit shy.

Rails form close bonds with their mating partners and both mum and dad are involved in the care of their chicks. But the mating season ended last month and this one was alone, perhaps left behind, for now.
